Conference objectives

  • Build momentum: Champion youth-led initiatives for resilient, equitable food systems.
  • Mobilize action: Engage with decision-makers and amplify youth voices in global food systems governance, while scaling finances to support.
  • Shape the future: Develop recommendations for the UNFSS+4 Stocktake.

How the Youth Conference contributes to UNFSS+4 objectives

The Youth Conference increases the impact and inclusivity of the UNFSS+4 process by contributing to its three key objectives:

  1. Documenting progress: The conference will showcase youth-led reflections on progress since UNFSS 2021, highlighting achievements, lessons learned, and remaining challenges in food systems transformation, with a focus on youth engagement and governance.
  2. Strengthening accountability: By providing a platform for youth voices, the conference will help identify gaps in commitments and actions, fostering greater accountability from both state and non-state actors in advancing inclusive and sustainable food systems.
  3. Unlocking investments for food systems transformation: The conference will spotlight youth-driven solutions and promote opportunities for investment in innovative approaches, such as climate-resilient agriculture, digital tools, and technologies that support sustainable food systems and small-scale farmers.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

The conference is open to all stakeholders, including National Convenors and members of the broader Ecosystem of Support, on a self-funding basis for in-person or virtual participation without costs. (There are, however, limited spots and registrations will be considered on a first come, first-serve basis).

Registration efforts will also aim to ensure diversity across gender, geography, and disability status, fostering an equitable platform for voices from all backgrounds to contribute meaningfully.

Financial support will be provided for YLP alumni and World Food Forum (WFF) selected youth leaders.

Beyond the YLP and WFF, financial support for the conference will prioritize inclusivity and diversity, ensuring representation from underrepresented groups. Particular focus will be given to female smallholder farmers, Indigenous Peoples, and individuals with disabilities. Additionally, funding will also prioritize participants from countries where the YLP program is not yet represented and participants recommended by partners from low- and middle-income countries (LMICs).

The Youth Conference will take place over two days in Bangkok, Thailand, two months before the UNFSS+4 Stocktaking Moment. It will be a hybrid event, allowing both in-person and online participation to ensure inclusivity.

The conference will bring together young leaders, policymakers, entrepreneurs, researchers, and practitioners to foster intergenerational partnerships. Participants will discuss food systems transformation, engage with decision-makers, learn from success stories, and develop actionable recommendations for the UNFSS+4 Stocktaking Moment.

Yes, registration is required for both in-person and virtual participants.

The process begins with five regional online consultations, organized in partnership with the World Food Forum's (WFF) Youth Assembly, where youth leaders discuss challenges and opportunities in transforming global (agri)food systems. These consultations allow young people to voice concerns, share solutions, and identify key actions and recommendations – both at the regional and global level.

The outcomes will be synthesized into a global youth-prepared outcome document with actionable strategies to enhance youth engagement in food systems governance and decision-making, presented to National Convenors at UNFSS+4. The Conference will also socialize the understanding of food systems among participants and stakeholders, amplify youth voices through media, promote youth-led solutions, and raise global awareness of food systems transformation.

The Youth Conference aims to strengthen youth leadership in global food systems governance, enhance accountability by bridging gaps in civil society engagement and policymaking, while developing a youth-led roadmap for systemic food systems transformation. It will help shape strategies that prioritize the Right to Food and intergenerational well-being, preparing participants to inspire change at the UNFSS+4 Stocktake and beyond.

In addition to presenting the outcome document and policy recommendations at the UNFSS+4, the work from the Youth Conference and experience from UNFSS+4 will also be brought forward into the 5th WFF flagship event during the week of 13-17 October 2025. Here, the results will be shared, and interactive youth assembly sessions will be held to continue to build the path forward, as well as milestones in the following two years coinciding with key moments, including COP30, the following WFF flagship events, and UNFSS+6.

WFF National Chapters can be leveraged as a vehicle to take actions forward in coordination with the National Conveners, and successful case studies can be shared to encourage scaling these across other countries.
