From Seed to Sustainability - Food Systems 4 All

ContextSerbia’s National Food Systems Pathway puts a strong emphasis on promoting nature-positive production methods, organic and locally sourced food along with the development of short food supply chain and local food markets among other priorities. The importance of vertical and horizontal cooperation among all food system stakeholders also features as a crucial enabler for the achievement of national priorities. In this regard, an inter-institutional taskforce for Food Systems Transformation was established and worked on the 2022-23 Roadmap for the implementation of the Pathway.

OutcomesThe JP Planned focuses on strengthening the governance and policy framework for the implementation of the National Pathway, through the inter-institutional taskforce. In addition, the JP contributes to enabling conditions for local solutions to transition towards circular economy and organic production models.

  • Develop the 2025-2028 Roadmap for the implementation of the National Pathway
  • Facilitate multistakeholder engagements, through the inter-institutional and multisectoral taskforce to agree on a common vision for tackling priority issues, including healthy diets
  • Organize national and subnational thematic inclusive dialogues in preparation for the UN Food Systems Summit +4 Stocktaking Moment
  • Develop recommendations to integrate bio-district models into public policy frameworks and a strategy to scale-up bio-districts across Serbia
  • Promote networking and knowledge transfer to local public officials and producers’ associations focusing on branding and marketing, biodiversity, agro-ecology, nature-positive production and sustainable tourism
